The opening exihbition, constructed for one night only in the historical Spitalfields Market, London’s Square Mile, will showcase all forty finalists and their remarkable signature pieces.

DegreeArt.com proudly announces The Signature Art Prize 2012, Peoples’ Choice Award.

Following the announcement of our 40 Gala Finalists, chosen from hundreds of entries by our esteemed panel of judges, we now give you the opportunity to judge yourself.

WHAT IS IT?

Open to everyone and incredibly simple, the Peoples’ Choice Award asks you to have your say on the amazing collection of entrants to this year’s prize, as well as create yet another prize winner.

WHAT DOES THE WINNER RECEIVE?

The Peoples’ Choice winner will receive representation by DegreeArt, a £1,000 cash prize and art prizes from our competition sponsors Thames & Hudson, Cowling & Wilcox and Artfund.

HOW DO I VOTE?

To place your vote you simply need to visit and ‘Like’ our Facebook page, browse through some stunning pieces of art and click the ‘Vote’ button under the entrants you believe deserve to be in with a chance of being crowned this year’s winner.

You may vote for as many entrants as you deem fit, however you can only vote once for each image. Voting closes on the 29th October at 12pm.

‘RELIGIONIS VIOLENTA’

exhibition

opens at London West Bank Gallery on September 7, 2012

London  -  “Those who believe in absurdities end up committing atrocities” [Voltaire, 1694-1778].

KGB-Projects presents Religionis Violenta, a sensational group show with some of the most prevalent artists from the UK and Malta, at the prestigious London West Bank Gallery in West london’s Notting Hill from 7 - 11 September, 2012.

Expect a tantalizing experience that stimulates the senses through vision, sound, smell and touch. The exhibition will be showcasing more than 30 selected artworks focusing on dark humour, irony and obscenity, revealing the artists’ taste for a bittersweet use of blasphemy, a snigger at and caustic provocation.

Religionis Violenta is taken from the Latin meaning for violent religion. The concept of the show initially emerged as a spontaneous reaction to the popular catchphrase ‘Where’s your GOD now?’ and the many conflicts that occur in the name of religion in a historical context.

The relationship between religion and HIV/AIDS is complicated and often controversial, as the Roman Catholic and Orthodox Greek churches are still in serious denial about human sexuality. We therefore decided to donate part of the art sale proceeds to AIDS Ark, a registered charity saving lives by enabling access to HIV medication and associated care at the frontiers of the developing world.

Open Call - KGB-Projects still welcomes applications from artists to submit work, info on how to enter can be found on their website www.kgbprojects.com. Deadline: 23 July 2012 @ 5pm. There will be awards & cash prizes for Best of Show and a Runner-Up, voted on by visitors and announced at the end of the Private View night.

Runner Up Prize Award for Epsom Station Design

[art in architecture - 'from A to B']

Eye-catching from a distance, striking close-up. The facade of this building gives it a strong presence, moving contemporary art forward in architecture. Making Epsom Station immediately recognisable.

The black lines reveal themselves as abstracted images of railway tracks, going criss-cross as we all travel from A to B. The frosted panels reflect the ever-changing skies, in stark contrast with the triangular coloured panels making it a playful but bold statement. The abstract and minimal design seduces you to look up and up again and invokes serious thoughts from totally contrasting historical spaces in Epsom.
